Manager, Communications and Public Relations

Jenner & Block, a leading law firm with international reach, is seeking a strategic and dynamic Manager, Communications and Public Relations to join the firm. There are two positions available with one located in the Los Angeles office and the second open to either the Chicago or New York office locations. The Manager will work with key stakeholders to advance the firm’s brand and reputation through innovative public relations initiatives, award and recognition pursuits, and impactful internal and external communications.
Los Angeles: The Manager will lead communications and public relations efforts for several leading practices and industry groups, including Antitrust, Media and Entertainment, Consumer Brands, Sports and Gaming, and AI/Technology. They will also provide communications support to highlight and elevate the firm’s nationally recognized pro bono work.
Chicago/New York: The Manager will lead communications and public relations efforts for several practices and industry groups, including Energy, Corporate, M&A, and specialized regulatory and litigation practices. They will also provide communications support to highlight and elevate the firm’s nationally recognized Appellate work.
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer and serving as a member of the Communications Department Leadership Team, the Manager will collaborate closely with a talented team of communications professionals. In this role, they will act as a trusted advisor to lawyers and professional staff while cultivating meaningful relationships with top-tier media and stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities
Work with lawyers to identify, develop, and implement communications activities—media interviews, thought leadership, speaking engagements, events, etc.—that support the firm’s mission to be the best at what we do, a great place to work, and a significant contributor to our communities.
Provide guidance and mentorship to a direct report, fostering professional growth while ensuring high-quality communications deliverables.
Build and maintain relationships with journalists at key media outlets, creating opportunities to connect partners with key reporters, and preparing lawyers for interviews.
Draft and edit press releases, talking points, firm memos, bylines, and other communications collaterals.
Draft and edit content for the firm’s website, intranet, internal communications, and other channels.
Craft innovative social media campaigns that amplify the firm’s brand and reputation.
Collaborate with and manage external PR consultants, ensuring all activities meet firm standards and objectives.
Support planning and execution of integrated communications and marketing campaigns.
Manage special projects and other public relations initiatives.
Help manage submissions process for awards, including for individual lawyers, practices, and the firm.
Work collaboratively with the firm’s relationship partners to assist in the profile-raising of our clients’ in-house counsel.
Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of communications, public relations, or journalism experience. Prior law firm experience is strongly preferred.
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related field.
LA: Experience in the West Coast market as well as supporting litigation practices across areas such as antitrust, copyright, media and entertainment, technology is preferred.
CHI/NY: Experience in the Chicago/New York market as well as supporting transactional, litigation, and regulatory practices is preferred.
Skilled in guiding, mentoring, and fostering the growth of junior team members.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with highest level of discretion and professionalism.
Experienced in recognizing and developing strategic media opportunities to enhance visibility and reputation.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Attention to detail, proofreading, and accuracy are key in this role.
Advanced knowledge of LinkedIn is a bonus.

The anticipated pay range for this role is $115k-$165k in Chicago, $130k-$190k in New York, and $125k-$180k in Los Angeles. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on several factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.
