Job description

All marketing starts with an idea but succeeds or fails based on implementation. Burford Capital seeks a key member of its global marketing team to champion and lead marketing implementation at worldclass standards. Reporting to the CMO, the VP, Marketing Operations plays a critical role in ensuring that Burford’s global marketing programs are delivered flawlessly, on time and on budget, and with the greatest impact on the business. This role is ideally suited to a high-energy individual of superlative organizational skills who welcomes the opportunity to grow in a fast-paced, startup environment.

Measures of success

The VP, Marketing Operations will not only meet targets for budget and calendar delivery but also—by working to improve team collaboration and efficiency—enable the marketing function to grow and scale with Burford’s rapidly growing business.

Responsibilities

Marketing operations

  • Manage marketing programs, ensuring that everything we do has a goal, a metric of success and a plan for delivery
  • Work with junior team members to foster collaboration and ensure delivery at the highest standards
  • Oversee calendars and ensure that adequate resources are in place to deliver programs on time and on budget
  • Track marketing costs and budgets, process invoices
  • Ensure timely and on-budget delivery of vendor services
  • Oversee monthly reporting of marketing ROI across functions, business units and geographies

Marketing communications

  • Manage internal editorial calendar to ensure steady stream of content and efficient use of news
  • Ghost write articles for blog and other thought leadership vehicles

Events

  • Develop and execute results-driven events (including client events, sponsored events, speaking engagements, hosted seminars, CLEs and social events)
  • Attend events and/or make arrangements for Burford staff to attend
  • Collect data to ensure firm participates in events with greatest ROI

Sales integration

  • Ensure that CRM programs (Salesforce, Pardot) are fully optimized, overseeing the work of others and working across departments
  • Stay abreast of marketing automation resources and trends

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in a marketing or operations role
  • College degree
  • Superb planning skills with a systematic approach and attention to detail
  • Determination and drive to succeed
  • Professional judgment and credibility with senior and junior staff
  • Strong communicator (written and verbal)
  • Curiosity and a willingness to develop and continue learning
  • Creativity and good problem-solving abilities

Burford pays base salaries consistent with the financial services industry and favors incentive compensation to reward performance, through a combination of current bonuses and long term incentive awards, including those tied to Burford’s stock price performance.
