Forming an Atlanta Arm of
LFMP |
|
|
October 18, 2012 - We organized
a grass-roots effort to gauge interest in forming an Atlanta
arm of Law Firm Media Professionals (www.lfmp.org).
Building on successful grass-roots efforts in other cities
such as Philadelphia and New York, this is a national
association of in-house and outside media and marketing
professionals dedicated to improving how we deliver public
relations and communications services to the law firms we
serve. Guest speakers range from lawyers to journalists to
other media professionals. There is no cost to be a part of
the group, and this does not compete with other outstanding
industry associations like the Legal Marketing Association
or the Public Relations Society of America, among others.
(In fact, LFMP partners with the LMA on programming for the
international LMA conference and other projects.)
If you are interested in information on the group's
development, please send email

USING & CONTROLLING THE MEDIA
IN LITIGATION: EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATING THE INFORMATION THE
PRESS RECEIVES
In the current environment of heightened awareness and concern
over corporate wrongdoing, compounded by great public interest
in high profile litigation, journalists have descended upon
these types of cases as news goldmines. Lawyers need to know
not only how to master the adversarial and courtroom
battleground, but also how to handle themselves with the
media.
Lawyers cannot afford to be unprepared to talk to journalists,
especially when: the court of public opinion matters just as
much as the ruling to the client; the fate of any case may be
shaped by media coverage and the lawyers' abilities to
communicate and control the information they receive; and the
opposition may be far more skilled at handling the media.
Two law firm media relations specialists (one a former
award-winning journalist, the other a lawyer), will
comprehensively address how to handle media attention relating
to high-profile litigation. Topics will include: making public
statements, T.V. appearances, handling unexpected journalist
phone calls, tackling "off the record" conversations, requests
for "leaks" of information and building long-lasting
relationships with reporters without divulging confidential
information.
This program is a must for lawyers in any practice area.
Program Co-Instructors: Joshua Peck, Senior Manager of Media
Relations, Duane Morris LLP & Spencer Baretz, Partner,
Hellerman Baretz Communications.
CLE credit: 3 credits total:
credit breakdown to be determined. This program provides
transitional credit for newly admitted attorneys. For more
information regarding this course, please
